When Anti-Immigrant Rhetoric Seeps into Public School Discussions
Meet a few of the faces for public education:
Holly
Hazard
Holly is an attorney with over 30 years experience with social justice non-profits.
She has four children, and is an experienced PTA President, non-profit executive, legislative aide, political activist and community organizer.
Cheryl
Binkley
Cheryl Gibbs Binkley taught high school English and Theatre at Justice and Marshall high schools until her retirement in 2016.
She has served as an adjunct English instructor at NVCC, and as a university supervisor for student teachers for George Mason University. She is the author of several curricula, and teaching manuals and holds an M.Ed. in Special Education from the University of Virginia. She is the parent and grandparent of three FCPS graduates.
Vanessa
Hall
Vanessa Hall is an active school, church, and community volunteer and parent to two FCPS students. Whether she is leading a scout troop, Science Olympiad team, or class, she works to ensure the environment is safe, supportive, appropriate, and inclusive for all.
Marianne Burke
Marianne K. Burke, PhD. is a mother of three graduates from Virginia public schools and universities. She is also Chair of the Education Working Group for the Virginia Grassroots Coalition.
She is a retired research scientist, from government and academic positions and served as a Peace Corps volunteer where she planned and implemented environmental education.
